Before I start, I just want to say that I do not benefit in any way by promoting Accessible Yoga.  I do so because I believe in their cause.  And more so, I wish to be part of a group that works towards making yoga accessible to all.

There is a common misconception that – you have to be fit and flexible to be able to practice yoga.  But that is simply not true!  Yoga is for everyone and can be done by every BODY.  It is such a vast field, that everyone can have access to at least some part of it, if not all.  That is where Accessible Yoga comes into picture.

It is a non-profit organization founded by Jivana Heyman with a vision to make yoga accessible to all.  He, his staff, and a group of growing volunteers work hard to spread this word.  And I have personally noticed (from the time I first came to know of them), how much their community has grown – rather multiplied!

Therefore, this post is simply to do my part in bringing some more awareness to this great cause!  Their community is growing not just within the United States, but all over the world.  They have Yoga Alliance approved trainings offered in different parts of the world.

So if you or a loved one are not comfortable practicing yoga in a regular class or studio setting, then reach out!  An accessible yoga teacher may be just around the corner from you.  With the use of a few simple props, so many of the yoga poses can be made accessible to individuals who may otherwise find them challenging.

And if you don’t have an accessible yoga teacher in your area yet, then stay tuned for Jivana Heymans book – Accessible Yoga: Poses and Practices for Every Body, which shall be releasing November 5th 2019.  There is also a great book by Dianne Bondy – Yoga for Everyone, which I own and refer to often.

And last but not the least, I want to thank Amber Karnes, the founder of Body Positive Yoga.  She is another amazing soul promoting the same vision.  I had the privilege of training with her in April 2019, and have learnt SO MUCH from her!!!
